Giving & Finances

We affirm that giving is an integral part of community life and that the scriptural pattern is one of liberality and sacrifice embedded within a local and trans-local context. We see two streams of financial resource in the New Testament: the needs of the poor (specifically poor saints) and the furtherance of the gospel. To that end we embrace frugality in the use of finances for administrative needs, encourage giving and are transparent regarding the distribution of funds.

The distribution of finances is directed by the elders and deacons, and presented for accountability to the equipping team.

Christ Life has intentionally chosen not to become a 501 c(3) entity to steer free of governmental constraints. However, the IRS does not require this for “churches” to allow givers a tax deduction.

Concerning Giving, we believe…

  • Believers have the freedom to give as they feel moved by the Spirit of God. We encourage giving into the community holdings along with self-directed giving.
  • The law of tithing has been superseded by the law of life in Christ Jesus. We profoundly reject the “curse” mentality, preferring the principle of sowing and reaping.
  • Believers in community with one another should give to further the work of the gospel and attend to the needs of the saints.

Concerning Finances, it is our practice that…

  • An record of the community finances is published quarterly and submitted to the equipping team for accountability.
  • The use of community finances is determined by the combined council of the elders and deacons.
  • The community holdings are distributed to serve the furtherance of the gospel, the needs of the saints and the administration of the community.
